Count Trainer

Count Trainer deals cards to you one at a time and checks whether you are keeping the Hi-Lo count correctly. It runs entirely in your browser, it is free, and it does not need an account.

The Hi-Lo values

Every card is worth one of three numbers. Add them up as the cards go by — that total is the running count.

  • +1
    2 3 4 5 6
    Low cards
  • 0
    7 8 9
    Neutral cards
  • -1
    10 J Q K A
    High cards

A full 52-card deck contains twenty +1 cards and twenty -1 cards, so counting a whole deck correctly always ends at zero. That is the first thing worth checking yourself against.

What a session looks like

  • 1. Cards are dealt

One card at a time, at the speed you set. Add its Hi-Lo value to your count as it appears.

  • 2. You get quizzed

Every few cards the drill pauses and asks for your running count. Optionally it also asks for the true count.

  • 3. You see the numbers

Accuracy, average answer time and longest correct streak are recorded so you can tell whether you are improving.

Deck count, card speed, quiz frequency and whether the count is shown on screen are all adjustable in Settings. Past sessions are listed in Stats.

Add to home screen

Add it to your home screen

On iPhone and iPad, tap the Share button in Safari, then choose Add to Home Screen. On Android Chrome, open the browser menu and choose Add to Home screen. It then opens full screen and works without a connection.

What this is for

This is a drill for the arithmetic: keeping a running count under time pressure and converting it to a true count. It is a practice tool, not betting advice and not a strategy guide. Nothing you do here is stored anywhere except your own browser.
